Companion Animal Hospital is proud to be expanding its sevices to include Holistic and Alternative Medicine. We now offer acupuncture and herbal medications to help your pet during times of illness, injury, and even in health. These methodologies can be used alone, or in conjunction with traditional Western Medicine.
Extensive research has shown that acupuncture is effective for a wide variety of ailments and conditions. Various theories explain how acupuncture works:
* The Gate Theory: acupuncture stimulates inhibitory neurons so that pain is not consciously perceived
* The Humoral Theory: acupuncture stimulates the release of the body's chemicals that result in local anesthesia
* The Autonomic Nervous System Theory: acupuncture stimulates vasodilation which leads to increased blood flow to aid in healing
* The Local Effects Theory: acupuncture stimulates local pain relief, muscle and tissue relaxation, increased tissue immune function and increased blood supply to the area
* The Bioelectrical Theory: acupuncture points have low electrical resistance and high conductivity; when stimulated, nervous impulses help healing
Please call us to make an appointment with Dr. Jennifer Kelly to discuss how Holistic Medicine and acupuncture can improve your pet's quality of life.
